MI MUNDO ROTO
armed conflicts
ONE STORY. TOO MANY REALITIES.
Mi mundo roto tells the story of a five-year-old boy from Gaza who loses his home and his parents in an air strike in the Gaza Strip.
The child and his story are fictional, but the reality that inspired them is not. Thousands of children are currently living with the consequences of war and violence in places such as Gaza, Sudan, Syria, Myanmar, Yemen, Haiti and Ukraine.
The song and music video were born from the need to approach that reality from a very simple place: to put ourselves, for a moment, in someone else’s shoes. To try to imagine what it means to lose your home, your family, your sense of safety and the world you knew when you are only five years old.
There are families. There are children.
Mi mundo roto aims to be a small tribute to all those innocent victims and, at the same time, an invitation not to look the other way. To listen, ask questions, seek information, talk about it and share.
And also to educate through empathy. That is why the project includes teaching materials so that teachers and students can work with the song and the music video in the classroom, reflecting together on childhood, armed conflict, empathy and the way we look at the suffering of others.

MI MUNDO ROTO
The house fell down. Thirteen floors of dust and coal.
The laughter went out. My breathing came alive.
Mum no longer answers and Dad cannot lift me up.
My toy at the doorway. It can still see me trembling.
I am five years old and my world is broken. A dirty teddy bear and this voiceless sun.
I have shouted their names but the smoke is deaf. Where is their song hiding?
I am five years old and my arms are cold. A long queue and a little piece of bread.
I sleep holding on to what I remember, so that this fear will not grow any more.
There is a sea of blankets. Each one covers a heart.
I ask if they are sleeping. They tell me it is something worse.
There are voices whispering that perhaps tomorrow I will have to leave.
But no one explains why I could not finish my drawing.
I am five years old and my world is broken. A dirty teddy bear and this voiceless sun.
I have shouted their names but the smoke is deaf. Where is their song hiding?
I am five years old and my arms are cold. A long queue and a little piece of bread.
I sleep holding on to what I remember so that this fear will not grow any more.
I only wanted to learn to swim. Run in the square. Lose and win.
Now I count stars from this doorway, asking the sky to let them in.
I am five years old and my world is broken. A dirty teddy bear and this voiceless sun.
I have shouted their names but the smoke is deaf. Who will tell me where I am going?
I am five years old with a cold heart and my name written in pen on a piece of paper.
When they ask me where I come from, I point to the dust and say "I don't know".
Guide him. Guide him. Guide him.
